You Can Lessen the Consequences of a Disaster!
Emergency Preparedness Opportunity for SLV
By Sherry Skold

The second annual Disaster Emergency Preparedness Faire will take place on Saturday, October 20 between 10:00 and 2:00 at the San Lorenzo Elementary School multi-purpose room.  Demonstrations, information, and children's activities will highlight this year’s Faire so it is an event for the entire family.  Businesses and urged to send representatives as well, since everything from an earthquake to a flu pandemic could impact the job site.

The Faire will feature information and presentations by the California Highway Patrol, our local Fire Departments, the Red Cross, PG&E, the County Sheriff, CERTS (Community Emergency Response Team), Aries (our local HAM Radio group) and our local school district and several County Agencies. 5th District Supervisor, Mark Stone, has been asked to open our event at 10:30 a.m. with a brief overview of Santa Cruz County’s emergency preparedness.

PG&E has given Mountain Community Resources $1500 in a grant to support our effort in educating the community about necessary preparations for the various disasters that could befall our beautiful Valley.

In addition, the Valley Women's Club has given a $500 grant for this effort.   We hope you will all join us in this exciting event that is so meaningful to us all – and has the potential of reducing the pain and suffering a disaster could cause.
